Michelle is a Colorado native and began running at the age of 13. She has always loved to run whether on the trails, on the track, or as part of a triathlon and has competed in many different sports over the years. But, she has always been drawn to coaching. She started when she was still in high school by creating a small running group for the neighborhood kids to train for a series of races. Over the years she has also helped coach track and cross country for Palmer High School, Coronado High School, and Colorado College.
Some of her fun accomplishments include racing nationally with the Team Saturn Cycling team, racing for Team USA at the World Mountain Running Championships, running Ironman triathlons (twice at the IM World Championships in Hawaii), and winning the Empire State Building Run-Up in New York City in 1996. In 1998, she transitioned into coaching, initially working as the Junior National Teams coach for USA triathlon. During this time she also coached many professional athletes, including the US and Australian Men’s National Champions, and the Chilean Women’s National Champion. In 2000, she was selected as the head coach for the USA Olympic Triathlon men’s and women’s teams for the Olympic Games in Sydney. She was also named the USOC National Triathlon Coach of the Year in 2000, 2001, and 2002. After the Olympic Games, she ran the USA Triathlon Resident and National team programs out of the Olympic Training Center until 2003. She was inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Michelle currently works as a real estate broker and sits on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Colorado and Rocky Mountain Women’s Film. She enjoys being outdoors and training and racing (for fun) when she can. She also loves spending time with her friends, family, and especially her three young grandchildren.
